Weber State basketball wasn’t put on the map until the Portland Trail Blazers drafted Damian Lillard sixth overall pick in 2012, but the school has continuously produced competitive teams and quality pros. Lillard was a part of two of Weber State’s 22 Big Sky regular-season championships, and the school has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances. Brought together by general manager and point guard Kellen McCoy, this Wasatch Front team coached by Lillard is out to prove that you can’t overlook the small schools.

Named after the region of metropolitan cities in northern Utah that lie amongst the mountains known as the Wasatch Range, this Weber State alumni team includes some of the best players to ever come through the program. Guard Davion Berry, currently playing in Germany, won Big Sky Player of the Year in 2014. Scott Bamforth, who played with New Mexico RH in TBT 2016 and is one of the best scoring guards in Spain, was a two-time First-team All-Big Sky member. Although McCoy has been out of pro basketball for six years and is now a high school coach, he’s not one to be slept on; the 5-foot-7 guard won the Big Sky Player of the Year award in 2009.

With Lillard on the bench and multiple award winners on the floor, the 11th-seeded Wasatch Front has the makings of a classic Cinderella team.
