TBT History: Lost in the first round in 2016.

Nutshell:  Named "The Region" because all of the players on the team are from an area of the south side of Chicago that extends into northwest Indiana. Almost beat Purple & Black in 2016 behind Stefhon Hannah's ridiculous, second-half shooting performance. Purple & Black since poached him.

After a heartbreaking 85-82 loss to Purple and Black last summer, GM Corey Moore and company are out for revenge in TBT 2017. Did you really expect these guys to give up that easy? This lifelong group of friends from Illinois and Indiana are out to prove that their region has the best basketball players in the world. As Moore states, “I don’t call us a team. I call us a family. I’ve been with most of these guys since they were kids coming up. We conquered the local hoop scene and now we want to test our skills in the biggest and best tournament in the world right now!!!!!”

While you may not know many of the guys on this team, that does not mean they can’t play ball. In fact, as we saw last summer quite the opposite is true. The Region gets its motivation from the fact that many overlook them each and every time they take the floor. Take a guy like Russell Byrd, for example. The two-year Michigan State captain was seemingly forgotten when he decided to transfer to The Master’s College for his senior season. Despite a terrific end to his college career and a breakout year for the Moncton Miracles in Canada this past season (14.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.4 apg), most people will not know Byrd’s name when he steps on the floor for The Region. That serves as motivation. Stories like this can be found up and down the roster.

It will be a tough first round matchup for The Region against No. 2 Scarlet & Gray (The Ohio State University alumni). But if anyone is up to the challenge, it’s this gritty group of ballers from Illinois and Indiana.
