After two tough loses, the Underdawgs are back in the W column

“It feels good to be back on the winning side,” said Jackson TN Underdawgs GM Darius DeBerry.

DeBerry and his team, made up of mostly players that come from Jackson, TN, suffered tough back-to-back losses in TBT games the past two summers.

After upsetting the No. 1 seeded Blue Grass Boys (Kentucky Alumni) as a No. 16 seed in the 2016 tournament, the Underdawgs lost in heartbreaking fashion the next day to Always A Brave on a buzzer-beater.

Come 2017, the Underdogs lost yet again on a buzzer-beater. Lightning really did strike the same place twice for DeBerry and Jackson, TN.

But redemption came in 2018 against the Zoo Crew (Pitt Alumni).  An 86-77 victory Saturday gave the Underdawgs the confidence they need to move on to the next round.

Jaylen Barford scored a team high 21 points, with support also coming from Nicchaeus Doaks seven defensive rebounds and Jewuan Long’s 13 points.

Though the team name is the Underdawgs, there is no lack of confidence after a solid and redemptive start to the 2018 tournament.
