Curtin embracing new TBT coaching role

Colin Curtin is coaching for more than just his fourth TBT Championship

Colin Curtin was 19-0 and won three consecutive TBT titles coaching Overseas Elite. He’s back for his fourth TBT run, but this time he’s drawing up plays for a different squad. Last week Curtin shocked the TBT world and announced that he would be coaching Gael Nation, a group of Iona alumni.

The 2009 Niagara University graduate watched his former team punch its ticket to the Super 16 last weekend, before coming into Brooklyn this weekend with the same goal in mind.

He’s halfway there.

Gael Nation, the 5-seed in the Northeast Region, went into halftime tied at 49. Due to some timely halftime adjustments, Curtin’s new team was able to finish the third quarter up 78-66 and eventually defeated Sideline Cancer by a score of 100-88. The Gaels’ next test will come against 4-seed Armored Athlete, a TBT regular.

While he certainly would enjoy adding another TBT title to his resume, Curtin says that winning was not his motivation for returning this year.

I talked with Curtin after Gael Nation’s first round win to find out what brought him back to TBT and what he hopes to gain out of year four.
