Carmen’s Crew cruised through the Columbus Regional. And, midway through the quarterfinal matchup with Eberlein Drive, it looked like this would be another easy victory. In the end, the mostly Ohio State University alumni squad survived a late rally by defending runner-up Eberlein Drive and won, 79-71, to advance to the semi-finals.

Demetri McCamey, one of four players who did not attend Ohio State, led five players in double figures in the win for Carmen’s Crew. McCamey hit four of his six three-point attempts. “Demtri was the reason we got off to that big lead,” said Carmen’s Crew coach Jared Sullinger. “He made a lot of big shots, timely shots.” Carmen’s Crew, formerly known as Scarlet & Gray, becomes just the second team in TBT history to make two semi-finals appearances. Four-time champion Overseas Elite is the other. William Buford (15 points), Jeff Gibbs (14 points), Aaron Craft (11 points) and David Lighty (10 points) all reached double figures for Carmen’s Crew, which outscored Eberlein Drive 23-13 in second quarter and never looked back.  Carmen’s Crew continues to showcase its wide array of scoring options, providing Sullinger some confidence heading into Sunday’s semi-final. “We’re one of the most versatile teams in this tournament,” said Sullinger. “Good luck guarding us.” Jerome Randle, a member of TBT’s 2018 All-Tournament Team, had a game-high 27 points to lead the offensive effort for Eberlein Drive, which shot just 21% from three-point range.
