Week #7: Tight races continue across all regions as registration deadline draws near

Let’s take a look at the standings as of May 19, 2017.  Please note that the standings and the vote tallies of the teams are subject to change, and what is published here may not be reflective of the standings as they are displayed on TheTournament.com.

Northeast

Like heavyweight boxers feeling out their opponent for the first couple rounds of a fight, the Talladega Knights and Boeheim's Army spent the last few weeks throwing subtle jabs at each other. This week, haymakers were flying from all directions. Although Boeheim's Army briefly dethroned Josh Boone and company for the No. 1 spot in the region, Ricky Bobby's favorite #TBT2017 squad came back in a big way to regain their perch atop the standings.  Behind them, the South Jamaica Kings, OPI, Sideline Cancer and GaelNation all continue to rack up votes as June 1 quickly approaches. The most surprising development in the Northeast came in regards to the 7-9 spots. Just last week a handful of teams were seperated by less than a 100 votes for the final three popularity bids in the region. But a strong couple of days from the Silver Spring's Willows Runners, DuBois Dream and DC on Point puts them well ahead of the pack (for now) with the stretch run in sight.

  1. Talladega Knights – 1,369
  2. Boeheim's Army (Syracuse Alumni) – 1,271
  3. South Jamaica Kings – 1,215
  4. OPI – 1,130
  5. Sideline Cancer – 1,042
  6. GaelNation (Iona Alumni) – 1,012
  7. Silver Spring's Willows Runners – 783
  8. DuBois Dream – 778
  9. DC on Point – 747

Midwest

If TBT 2017 registration ended today, the Big 12 (X2), Big East, Big Ten and Horizon League would all be represented via popularity bids alone. While the Hilton Magic Legends, Golden Eagles, Scarlet & Gray and Purple and Black all hold the same positions as last week, the Banner Boys drop one spot to ninth after a strong week from Bryan Hurley and HBC. With that being said, don't forget about the Jackson TN Underdawgs, The Region or Fort Wayne Champs. The three have consistently held a top-nine spot in a tight Midwest region.

  1. Hilton Magic Legends (Iowa State Alumni) – 1,310
  2. Golden Eagles (Marquette Alumni) – 995
  3. Jackson TN Underdawgs – 827
  4. The Region – 752
  5. Scarlet & Gray (The Ohio State University Alumni) – 744
  6. Purple and Black (Kansas State Alumni) – 696
  7. Fort Wayne Champs – 653
  8. HBC - 639
  9. Banner Boys (UW-Milwaukee Alumni) – 616

South

What a week for the NC Prodigal Sons. After sitting ninth in the South with 698 votes last Friday, Jason Caldwell's squad racked up nearly 200 votes to jump to second in the region. But this race is far from over. While Golden Boot Dynasty is far and away the leader of the pack, the rest of the popularity bid spots are seperated by just 75 votes. And it doesn't stop there. Ohio United (785), Ole Hotty Toddy (678) and the Tampa Bulls (624) are all in position to make a late run of their own before the calendar flips to June.

  1. Golden Boot Dynasty – 1,659
  2. NC Prodigal Sons – 871
  3. Ram Nation (VCU Alumni) – 866
  4. Primetime Players – 859
  5. Seven City Grain – 850
  6. ATL "Hoops4Hunger" – 826
  7. Chattanooga Trenches – 825
  8. Atlanta Dirty South – 816
  9. Memorial Magic (Vanderbilt Alumni) – 796

West

Mostly Sports Delco continues to march up the standings, racking up over 200 votes to move from eigth to third this week. The popular sports podcast now trails just Team Challenge ALS and The Pearl 31's in the West region. Below the trio, Armored Athlete, Team Fredette, Pedro's Posse, Trained To Go and NWA: Nation Wide All-Stars all continue to keep pace and hold on to a spot in the top nine. Also, after falling out of popularity bid territory last week, Team Utah overtook the Damian Lillard-led Wasatch Front for the final spot in a race that is expected to come down to the wire.

  1. Team Challenge ALS – 752
  2. The Pearl 31's – 658
  3. Mostly Sports Delco – 650
  4. Armored Athlete – 609
  5. Team Fredette – 593
  6. Pedro's Posse – 549
  7. Trained To Go – 518
  8. NWA: Nation Wide All-Stars – 507
  9. Team Utah (Utah Alumni) – 483
