Despite having no substitutes, Southern Gentlemen outlasted Broad Street Brawlers, 92-82 at Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon. E. Victor Nickerson led the way for the fifth-seeded Southern Gentlemen, dropping 29 points on 10-17 shooting (6-10 3pm). John Petrucelli posted 25 points on just nine shots in his team’s losing effort.

The teams shot a combined 59 percent and played to a 29-29 tie in the first quarter. Southern Gentlemen had gained an 11-point advantage by the start of the fourth, making 60 percent (18-30 fg) of its shots in the second and third quarters. Broad Street Brawlers scored just 32 points in the second and third quarters combined, barely topping its impressive first quarter tally.

Heading into the Elam Ending, Southern Gentlemen held a nine-point lead. Eric Washington sunk a three-pointer right off the bat to bring Southern Gentlemen within five points of victory. Up by seven and needing three more points, Southern Gentlemen turned to Nickerson, its hot hand, to finish the deal. The former Valparaiso guard drilled a contested three-pointer on the left wing to secure the win.
