Boeheim’s Army played like it had competed in TBT before.

The six-time TBT participant, which fell to Brotherly Love in the Syracuse Regional title game last summer, began another run with a Round of 16 win over Men of Mackey, 76-69.

Eric Devendorf, TBT’s fourth all-time leading scorer, went 9-for-14 and finished with a game-high 21 points to pace the offensive attack for the Syracuse University alumni squad, which won despite shooting just 19% (4-for-21) from beyond the arc.

“I'm just a competitive dude,” said Devendorf when asked how he continues to play at such a high level every summer despite no longer playing professionally. “A passionate guy. Every time we get out on that floor, I’m trying to win. I’m just a competitive guy, and I love to play.”

Malachi Richardson scored 10 of his 15 points from the free throw line for Boeheim’s Army, which made 28 of its 32 free-throw attempts.

Devendorf’s layup gave Boeheim’s Army a four-point lead in the Elam Ending and allowed his team to pull away in the end.

“We gutted it out and made the plays we needed to,” said Boeheim’s Army coach Ryan Blackwell. “Every game here is going to be grueling and close. We have so many weapons, and we can trust everyone. It’s about grinding it out and fighting to the end.”

Frank Gaines had 18 points to lead four players in double figures in scoring for Men of Mackey, who shot just 20% (5-for-25) from three-point land.

Boeheim’s Army advances to play Sideline Cancer on July 11th at 4:00 PM EST.
